“数学界的诺贝尔奖”出炉，4人获奖

8 月 1 日，新一届菲尔兹奖（Fields Medal）在巴西揭晓，获奖者分别为伊朗裔英籍数学家 Caucher Birkar、意大利数学家 Alessio Figalli、德国数学家 Peter Scholze，以及印裔澳籍数学家 Akshay Venkatesh。

百度百科的资料显示，菲尔兹奖是据加拿大数学家约翰·查尔斯·菲尔兹（John Charles Fields）要求设立的国际性数学奖项 ，于 1936 年首次颁发，常被视为数学界的诺贝尔奖（诺贝尔奖本身未设数学奖）。 

菲尔兹奖每四年颁奖一次，每次颁给二至四名有卓越贡献的年轻数学家  。获奖者必须在该年元旦前未满四十岁，每人将得到 15000 加元（约合人民币 78633 元）的奖金和金质奖章一枚 。截至目前，共有 2 位华裔数学家曾获得过菲尔兹奖，分别是 1982 年获奖的数学家丘成桐和 2006 年获奖的数学家陶哲轩 。

Caucher Birkar 目前在英国的剑桥大学任教，他的获奖原因是：

for his proof of the boundedness of Fano varieties and for contributions to the minimal model program.



Alessio Figalli 目前在苏黎世联邦理工学院，他的获奖原因是：

for his contributions to the theory of optimal transport, and its application to partial differential equations, metric geometry, and probability.



Peter Scholze 目前在波恩大学任教，他的获奖原因是：

for transforming arithmetic algebraic geometry over p-adic fields through his introduction of perfectoid spaces, with application to galois representations and for the development of new cohomology theories.



Akshay Venkatesh 目前在斯坦福任教，他的获奖原因是：

for his synthesis of analytic number theory, homogeneous dynamics, topology, and representation theory, which has resolved long-standing problems in areas such as the equidistribution of arithmetic objects.
